Aviation: The Sky’s The Limit

AGES: 11-16
WEEKS: July 28, August 4
TIME: 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
FEE: $735 per week

Take off this summer, into the “Wild Blue Yonder,” under the direction of highly experienced Certified Flight Instructors (CFI)! During a week of wide-ranging aviation and aerospace activities, all campers are both pilots and passengers in a four-seat, single-engine aircraft as they log flight time under the auspices of a program at an area flight school.

Campers learn the science of “why planes fly,” focusing on both fixed-wing and rotary-wing aircrafts. They also study flight planning, aviation safety, airport and aircraft design, and the mechanics of aircraft instruments and engines. All of these lessons are put into practice during hands-on activities, including their flying lesson, where the CFI signs off on their logged flight time. In addition, campers will spend the week becoming rocket scientists as they build and launch rockets, including constructing rockets on a 3D printer, and studying the history of space exploration. They will learn from distinguished guest speakers about aerodynamics, airport architecture, the history of flying, careers in aviation and where to study, and future aviation happenings – from drones to outer space. Engaging in art-related projects, campers may design terminals of the future or bring their dreams of space travel to life. Each session, campers will take an aviation-related field trip to places such as the Air and Space Museum, NASA Goddard, or a major area airport and participate in aviation trivia contests – complete with prizes.

Campers will have the benefit of experienced staff and counselors who already hold their Private Pilot Licenses (PPL) and Drone Licenses. With many of our previous campers engaged in post-secondary aviation or aerospace education, this camp can be a first step towards a lifetime career.

Please note that an additional waiver is required to participate in flight day. You can view the waiver on our website and during the registration process.
