COVID-19 Safety, Medical Forms, and Medication

Health and safety protocols are subject to change given local and federal health guidelines and the levels of community spread of COVID-19 at the time of camp.

COVID-19

  • Vaccination
    • Bullis Summer Programs strongly encourages COVID-19 vaccination for all members of our camp.
  • Masks
    • Masks will be optional during summer programs (both indoors and on Bullis provided transportation).
  • Monitoring for Symptoms
    • If you have questions about whether to send your child to camp or when they are able to return after illness, please contact our camp nurse, Jessica Chang, at jessica_chang@bullis.org or 301-634-3616.

Medical Forms and Medication

  • All campers are required by Maryland law to have a completed medical form on file even if they will not bring medication to camp. You will be asked to complete a short Medical Form in order to complete the registration process.
  • If a camper needs to bring any medication to camp including prescription, non-prescription and/or emergency medications such as Epipens, inhalers, and seizure medication, they must submit the appropriate forms (signed by a doctor) at least one week prior to their first day of camp. Any medications brought to camp without the appropriate paperwork will not be accepted or administered by the nurse.
  • A Medication Authorization Form AND an Allergy, Asthma, and/or Seizure Action Plan(s) (if applicable) must be submitted to the camp office prior to any emergency medication being dispensed or brought to camp. The form(s) must be completed and signed by a doctor and can be found in the “Documents” section of your CampBrain account or on our website. Completed forms should be uploaded to your CampBrain account or emailed to us at summer_programs@bullis.org
  • Campers taking prescription and/or non-prescription medication while at camp must submit a completed Medical Authorization form signed by a doctor to the Summer Programs Office. These forms can be found in the “Documents” section of your CampBrain account or on our website. Completed forms should be uploaded to your CampBrain account or emailed to us at summer_programs@bullis.org
  • All prescription medications must be brought to camp in the original pharmacy container and with the pharmacy label noting the child’s name, dosage amount, and the time(s) to be given.
  • Please place medications, a copy of the Medication Authorization Form, and a copy of the Allergy, Asthma, and/or Seizure Action Plan(s) (if applicable), in a plastic bag, clearly labeled with the camper’s name.
  • Any camper who will be self-carrying and self-administering Epipens or inhalers must be cleared by the camp nurse, with signatures from both a parent/guardian and the camper’s physician to do so. No other medication is able to be self-carried.
  • All medications should be given to camp instructors or the camp nurse on the first day of camp unless the camper has been cleared to self-carry by a doctor. The camp nurse will check all medications (even those that are self-carry) on the first day to ensure they match the information on the forms signed by the doctor.
  • Sunscreen: As part of the registration process, you will sign a sunscreen waiver. Staff are allowed to apply spray sunscreen to campers who need assistance. Please send your camper with their own spray sunscreen (labeled with their name) so they can re-apply during the day. We do not need a medication form for sunscreen. Sunscreen should be applied at home each morning prior to coming to camp.
  • Immunization records for campers who attend school outside of the United States must be on file in the Summer Programs Office prior to the start of camp. You will need to complete state form MDH-896 in order to attend camp. This form can be found on the “Documents” page in CampBrain or on our website.

Weather & Emergencies

  • Bullis Summer Programs will not cancel camps due to inclement weather unless it presents a safety hazard or there is a loss of power.
  • In the event that Bullis Summer Programs must close due to loss of power and/or safety concerns, an announcement will be shared via email. We also utilize a text messaging service in the event of changes in arrival/ dismissal procedures, delays, closures, or emergencies. Please be sure to opt in to text messaging during the registration process if you wish to receive these alerts.
  • In the event of excessive heat, we make every effort to keep campers well-hydrated in well-ventilated indoor areas or in shaded outdoor areas. Instructors carefully monitor the amount of vigorous activity and observe campers for any signs of distress.
  • Water jugs are provided for all outdoor camps, and all camps have an indoor, air-conditioned space assigned to them to provide campers an opportunity to cool off at multiple times throughout the day.
  • In the event of thunderstorms or inclement weather, all outdoor camps will move indoors until the threat of the storm passes.
  • No refunds will be given in the event of camp closure due to inclement weather, emergencies, loss of power, or safety concerns.

Evacuation & Fire Drills

Bullis Summer Programs is required to conduct periodic evacuation drills. All personnel and campers on the Bullis campus will be required to participate during one of these scheduled drills. The purpose of these organized drills is to ensure a safe and orderly environment on the Bullis School campus for all campers and staff. Each camp instructor and director is oriented to these procedures and is instructed to follow them during a scheduled evacuation drill or real event.

Conduct

  • Campers are encouraged to leave valuable items at home. Bullis Summer Programs is not responsible for any lost or stolen items. This includes cell phones and other electronic devices.
  • Campers are expected to conduct themselves in a manner conducive to a safe and orderly environment. Bullis Summer Programs will not tolerate inappropriate or offensive language, physical or verbal assault, disrespecting classrooms or other school/ camp property, or bullying of any kind.
  • Campers who do not meet the above expectations (and/or are disruptive to the operation of the program/camp management) may be removed from camp, and parents/guardians may be called to pick up their child. Continued disruption could result in dismissal from Bullis Summer Programs without refund or opportunity to re-enroll.
