Farm Camp

AGES: 8-12
WEEK: June 17*, June 24, July 8, July 15
TIME: 9:00 a.m.- 3:30 p.m.
FEE: $615 | $495* (Holiday week)

Chickens, sheep, gardens, and dogs!  Fresh air, woods, creeks, and frogs!  Campers spend the week at Plow and Stars Farm, near Poolesville, MD, and learn about farm life.  If your child loves nature, the outdoors, and farm animals, this is the camp for them.  We will care for the resident animals, play games, have some adventures, and tend to the farm’s garden to grow and harvest some of the food we’ll later prepare and eat.

Campers will learn the basics of farm safety and tend to the farm animals through daily chores and interactions.  They will learn to care for the pigs, hens, and sheep, and even get a chance to hold some of our chicks in the brooder.  And who could forget the border collies, who play as hard as they work?  After chores are done, campers will take part in a variety of projects on the farm, like making compost; fixing chicken coops, and other light carpentry projects; collecting, washing, and boxing eggs; and tending, harvesting, and making food from the garden.  Most days will also include an adventure on the farm, either down to the creek or on the trails through the woods.  The session ends with a chance for campers to spend time with their favorite animals and make some special dishes from the garden at a celebratory lunch!
